A Littles Dozen

They could  not wait! They had to have a cupcake right then and there. I of course waited until they were a little coler but I gave in and let them have a bite.

Silly littles

A chocolate cupcake with Halloween sprinkles

I am by no means a baker. I attempt to bake and things get ruined. E likes to blame the oven but secretly I think he knows its me. For some reason I can never master the science of baking and so I rarely do so. I am a much better cook than a baker. Yesterday was super wet and miserable and I thought what can I do to make this day a little more exciting  for my little fab family ... I came up with the answer. Cupcakes!

Okay. Truth be told I totally cheated and got a box mix and a little tub of frosting and took the easy way out  but they came out delightful. I made a few tweeks to the oven with temp and time since the dratted thing runs way hotter than I would like it to. Then the littles and I spent the afternoon mixing , pouring, cooling and frosting cupcakes. It was more me  doing all the work and BBD trying to stick his little fingers in everything I was doing. I snapped a few pictures of the finished cupcakes but forsome reason they are not pulling up on my phone. Sorry.  They were great. E and  the littles gobbled them up like hotcakes and I treated myself to one. Yum! After this successful cupcake day I think I am reconsidering baking and may try and bake a few things from time to time.

A little Snack Attack

IMG_2071

After work on Friday I was looking around the house for something quick and fun for the littles to munch on. My mom had sent home some ice cream sandwiches a week or so ago and I had two left... now what to do what t do that was the question.

Fun-Ky them up of course!

Sticky Baby

Pics from our trip to the ice creamery last Friday. David was a sticky mess. Why he thought his ice cream dish was a cone is beyond me.

Look What I Won!

Picture 131

I am forever on Facebook I am not even sure why I am adding a link to wiki ,I am sure the entire world knows what facebook is by now. I am friends with Spud SF favorite place to get my organic produce .. I blog about it all the time. They had a give away up last week for tee shirt and 18 rabbits granola bars. I answered the questions right and viola in this weeks box I got my cute tee shirt that says Cheeky which in a way sums me up. The tee is a little small but make perfect bed time shirt. I also got a cute sticker with the 18 rabbits logo and two granola bars.

Nibble A Sultana (with organic apricots, sultanas & pumpkin seeds ) 4 points
Haute Diggety Date (Gracious Granola Bar made with ORGANIC dates, golden sultanas & oats) points unknown I did not do that much research before I left the house this AM I was running late.

I was perusing Spud and 18 rabbits website and think the flavors sound divine, the packaging is delicious and the site quite posh. I will be eating these bars sometime soon stay tuned for a fab mama review... But I think they will be making it to the next spud box... especially the cheeky cherry chocolate

BTW ... As I was blogging about this it occurred to me what the heck is a sultana? It's a variety of grape find out more about it here! Exotic and cute, kinda like me. LOl I am really looking forward to trying this bar out now.

Dinner:Del Fuego!

Last night my mom and sister took LMG to karate. We have decided to hold off a few months as he is really not paying that much attention. We don't want him to not like it so lessons will resume once he matures a little. While LMG was at his lesson I had a hot date with my hubby and my little baby David. We went to Buffalo Bills . I had my favorite salad the Del Fuego: Spicy chipotle dressing romaine lettuce, black beans, cucumbers , roasted red peppers, tomatoes, tortilla chips and roasted pumpkin seeds. YUMMY! We also and the staple Buffalos Bill's nachos. A trip to Buffalo Bills would not be the same with out them. BBD tore up some chips and place beans and chicken strips ad enjoyed some alone time with his mom and dad. It was a quick and tasty meal then back home to make sure we were on time for the arrival of my little karate kid.

PS. I really enyoy taking pictures of my food. I think the snaps come out good. What do you think?

FabMama Review: Niman Ranch Fearless Franks For Kids

Great franks to have around the house. What I liked the most about these franks is they where very crisp when you bit into them . There was a little bounce off of the frank which sometimes you don't find in an ordinary hot dog when you sink your teeth into. Maybe the difference is that they are franks and not ordinary dogs. The flavor was great. I usually do not like hot dogs, but I gave these a try because they are organic. Another great thing about these franks is that they are versatile and a kid pleaser! Woo hoo I am always looking for something that will makes the littles happy and they will want to eat.

I served these a few different ways while I had them int he fridge. Traditional frank style, sliced and grilled over brown rice, and fabu-dog style.

Franks can be a great throw back dinner The Niman Ranch Fearless Franks with Amy's organic baked beans are a great pairing as well.

Another satisfied little chomping on franks and rice.

Gabriel eating his dog big boy style. His first attempt at proper hot dog eating might I add.

Ideas for frank night: buns, mustard, ketchup, baked beans, Cookies and , juice.

Picture 284
A great pairing with franks... think traditional frank and bean dinner. My bean hound of a little David was not a big fan, he rarely turns down beans but it took him a few tries to decide if he liked them. Eventually he warmed up to their sweet tomato taste. I really liked these beans. I liked the flavor and a serving is only 2 points. Pictured is the actual 1/2 cup serving. Great with dinner small and hearty enough to put in your lunch box for a filling lunch.

Picture 281
A rare moment of preschooler sharing. E liked these dogs too and requested I order them again soon.

Picture 282
A frank grown up style... or shall I say Fabu-Dog Style. Toppings were nature value mustard, chopped onions, chopped avocado, and sprinkled fontina cheese. HOLY COW was this frank good! I served it with a side salad and enjoyed my frank feast. Yummy looking, no?

Thursday Dinner: Pita Pockets

A fab Family favorite (well for E and I anyways) was on the menu for dinner last night.

Cook down ground turkey meat, add your choice of seasonings , last night I added lipton's onion soup mix and balsamic vinegar, lemon pepper and Goya Adobo blend. Chop veggies of choice I used zucchini, onions, garlic and spinach. Allow all of these things to cook down and mingle together in a pan. That's it! What the heck you say.. I am not kidding.

Next step is beyond easy. get some pitas I used whole wheat from TJs warm in a skillet ( I have found this to be the easiest way to open the pita pockets after many trial and errors) Once warm slice open and fill with your one skillet sensation (above) I like to sprinkle a little bit of shredded cheese on top, but crumpled feta is just as fantastic. I served this with TJs chimichuri rice. I thought this rice was yummy. Its been in the freezer a couple of weeks so I finally had a chance to use it. It was a cross between Spanish rice and Indian rice very zesty. BBD loved it , LMG did not and he is a rice hound. So go figure, you can't please both littles all of the time.

Hooray for the Spud Box!

A snap of my Spud Box on Wednesday. My box was missing the bananas , so made a quick call and they will be issuing a credit. Great customer service. Most companies should take note and learn from Spud!

Avocado, Hass - 1 (Earthbound Farm/Natural Selection Foods, CA)
Bananas - approx 2.5 lbs - 4 (Organics Unlimited, CA)
Kiwis - 1 lb (Earthbound Farm/Natural Selection Foods, CA)
Lettuce, Green Leaf - 1 (Cal-Organic Farms, CA)
Potatoes, Red - New crop - 2 lb (Tomorrow's Organic, CA)
Salad Greens, Spring - 4 oz - 1 (Earthbound Farm/Natural Selection Foods, CA)
Spinach, Baby - 5 oz - 1 (Earthbound Farm/Natural Selection Foods, CA)
Strawberries - 8 oz - 1 (Natural Choice, CA)
Tangelo, Minneola - 2 lb (Sundance Natural Foods Company, CA)
Tomatoes, Roma - 1 lb (MEX)
Zucchini - Fancy size - 4 (MEX)
Potato Rosemary - 16oz (Grace Baking)
Organic Crazy Eights - 8 (Dee's Mini Doughnuts)

I am realizing that I have entirely too much lettuce in my life so will be making some changes to the regular delivery and tweaking it a little. I also got some kiwis and tangelos this week. Thinking that if muddled together that will make fantastic cocktails(need to buy some booze) Smoothies (the littles will like that) marinade for a bbq (E will love that) and maybe even a sweet salsa ( E and I will love that with the cocktails) Hmmm... many possibilities this weekend to create in the kitchen. Stay Tuned!

FabMama Review: EARTH’S BEST® SESAME STREET® Organic Yogurt Rice Crisp Bars

picture 218

EARTH’S BEST® SESAME STREET® Organic Yogurt Rice Crisp Bars

I picked these fantastic bars up @ Target while hunting for things to put in baskets. My intention was to put one bar in each littles basket and then keep the rest for their daily snacking. I happened to grab one yesterday for my lunch box. Holy Cow! These things are yummy, the best part... they are only 1 point per bar! that's fantastic! Very similar to a rice crispy treat but it's even better because its only 1 point and organic, designed for kids snacking but I am not above eating like a toddler if its good and these make the grade in my opinion. I Heart these bars. They will be a must in the cabinets from now on. Littles have not eaten them just yet but I am sure they will love them too, those two love organic also!

I highly recommend you try out these yummy bars ASAP, for your little and a better snack option for a littler waist!

PS. I love Earth's Best Organics they were my baby food company of choice, after examining their food selection I need to motor over to Whole Foods soon and pick up some of their other toddler food options.

Saturday Dinner

picture 207

I did not want to make a dinner that would be to heavy the day before an Easter feast. I whipped up something quick and easy.

Had some left over pasta in the fridge. Sliced up veggies and chicken sausage and sauteed in a pan. Sprayed a baking dish with baking spray, after tge veggies & sausage was cooked down I added some olive oil and seasoning.Next, mixed together with the cold pasta, put in baking dish. Sliced up some asiago cheese and mixed into the baking dish with pasta, chicken and veggies. Cooked at 350 for 20 minutes.

On the side I sauteed some spinach added some red pepper flakes and chopped up TJ's thai seasoned cashews. Cooked up and plated next to pasta dish...delish!

Dinner plated and delicious

9 Years & Counting

E and I celebrated our 9 year anniversary together on Friday. No, it was not 9 years of wedded bliss but 9 years together in this day and age is something to talk about , in my opinion. My sister came to care for the littles while E and I drive out to the city for some alone time. We made a day of it. We had lunch at Cha Cha Cha's on Haight. The food was outstanding, totally our type of down home ( well for us anyways ) cuisine. The mood was busy, the salsa music was pumpin' and the sangria was flowin. I really like this place and want to go back soon. Read my Yelp review of it here

After Cha Cha Cha's we did a kinda touristy thing and drove to fishermans wharf. not to check out the street vendors but to pick up a cupcake. Kara's Cupcakes it is both a sad but good thing you do not live near me!

The day ended up with us back in the East Bay to watch a total man movie, "The Fast and The Furious" but it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Happy Anniversary E. I love you!
